Overview
The Model Context Protocol (MCP) is an open-source standard for connecting AI applications to external systems. It connects AI models with external tools and data sources through three main components: servers, clients, and hosts. MCP provides a standardized interface for reading files, executing functions, and handling contextual prompts.
The Sectigo Certificate Manager (SCM) MCP server connects using the REST API to retrieve information about SSL certificate and reference operations.
Sectigo’s MCP is not enabled by default, the admin user must have permission to use it and have the MCP Server feature turned on. Authentication uses SCM credentials for a specific administrator. There is limited support for client credential grant flow in desktop AI clients, so Sectigo will provide a local Node proxy to bridge the gap.
All MCP requests, other than read-only, are audited. The audits capture the client IP, the agent, and the fact that the request came through MCP.
